ABOUT THE ARTIST

As a self-taught painter working with acrylics on canvas, my artistic focus has been figurative painting. These paintings reflect candid daily moments in life. I capture shared human experiences and present them to the viewer for contemplation and reflection. The viewer should feel a desire to know more about my individual subjects – what is the subject thinking or feeling.

As an emerging artist, developing my own distinct style has guided my learning process. My current style is represented by my use of bold colors and thoughtful subjects. The way I use color evolves instinctively as the painting evolves. Influenced by Fauvism and German Expressionism, I find inspiration in color, form, and subjects from artists like Henri Matisse and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Their textured, quick brush strokes and emotional subject portrayal can be seen referenced in my artwork. I also rely on skills developed as a graphic designer to direct the layout and balance of my paintings which adds a unique perspective or interesting crop of the subject.

As a life-long creative, I look forward to exploring my personal painting style, to watching it evolve and grow, and to see where it takes me in life. I am simply compelled to create art.
